Unemployment in Lithuania deceased in the second quarter, after rising in the previous quarter, data released by the Department of Statistics showed Friday.
The unemployment rate dropped to 13.3 percent in the second quarter from 14.5 percent in the first quarter, which was higher than 13.9 percent recorded a quarter earlier. In the second quarter of 2011, the jobless rate was 15.6 percent.
The unemployment rate among youth, aged between 15 and 24, was 25.2 percent, down from 28.7 percent seen in the first three months of the year. Long-term unemployment, which refers to persons unemployed for one year and more, decreased by 0.9 percentage points sequentially to 6.4 percent.
There were around 215,100 unemployed persons in the country at the end of the three-month period, down 6.8 percent compared to the first quarter.
Meanwhile, the number of employed persons in the country increased 2.8 percent quarter-over-quarter to around 1.4 million in the second quarter. Year-on-year, employment increased 1.4 percent, data showed.
