At least 50 people have been killed and several injured in overnight clashes between rival ethnic groups in Kenya's south-eastern Coast province, reports citing officials said on Wednesday.
Most of the dead were women and children, and they were hacked to death with machetes or burned alive, said the reports quoting local police officials.
The clash between Orma and Pokomo groups in Tana River district was said to be the worst since post-election violence rocked the country four years ago.
Clashes over theft of cattle, grazing and water rights are common in the semi-arid district, one of the poorest in the East African country.
