Vanguard Health Systems Inc. (VHS) Wednesday reported a profit for the fourth quarter, compared to a loss in the same period last year. Profit was driven mainly by higher revenues.
Net income attributable to Vanguard Health Systems, Inc. stockholders was $19.3 million or $0.24 per share, compared to a loss of $11.0 million or $0.23 per share in the prior-year period.
On average, 12 analysts polled by Thomson Reuters expected the company to earn $0.12 per share for the quarter. Analysts' estimates typically exclude special items.
Revenues totaled $1.45 billion, up from $1.40 billion last year. Analysts expected revenues of $1.53 billion.
Looking ahead to the fiscal year 2013, the company has forecast earnings in the range of $62 million to $77 million, or $0.74 to $0.93 per share. Analysts currently expect the company to earn $0.78 per share for 2013.
