President Barack Obama's re-election campaign continued to attack Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney for failing to provide details on his tax plan in a new television advertisement released Wednesday.
"Mitt Romney. He won't reveal what's in his taxes," the ad's narrator says, referencing Romney's refusal to release more than two years of returns. "And he won't tell you what he'd do to yours."
The 30-second ad, titled "Won't Say," goes on to accuse Romney of planning to raise taxes on the middle class in order to pay for huge new tax breaks for millionaires.
The campaign released a separate web video on Monday featuring footage from the Sunday morning talk shows showing Romney and his running mate Paul Ryan avoiding questions about what tax loopholes they'd close to pay for their proposed tax cuts.
During an interview on NBC's "Meet the Press," Romney would only say that high income taxpayers would have fewer deductions and exemptions.
However, the Obama campaign says there are not enough loopholes for the wealthy to pay for Romney's proposed tax cuts and has cited a study by the nonpartisan Tax Policy Center that determined that his tax plan could only be paid for by raising taxes on the middle class.
A statement from the campaign said the Romney-Ryan tax plan could only be paid for by limiting tax deductions like the mortgage interest deduction, which would raise taxes on middle-class families with kids by an average of $2,000 a year.
The Obama campaign said that the new ad will air in the key battleground states of Iowa, Nevada, Virginia, and Ohio.
