Belgian households turned slightly more optimistic about their finances and the general economy in September, recovering from the more negative sentiment seen in the previous months, data released by the National Bank of Belgium showed Wednesday.
The consumer confidence index increased to -14 in September from -16 in August, which was lower than -13 and -10 recorded in July and June respectively.
Households' perception of their own financial situation remained broadly stable compared to August, with the relevant indicator holding steady at -3. However, they were more upbeat about their capacity to save. The corresponding sub-index rose to -1 in September from -3 in August.
The measure of consumers' views of the Belgian economy remained unchanged at -11 during the month, while the indicator of unemployment perceptions dropped to 40 from 46, data showed.
