The beleaguered Research in Motion (RIM), maker of the Blackberry, scrambled to restore service to users on three of its continents Friday (September 21), following an outage similar to one its users experienced last year.
"Some users in Europe, Middle East & Africa are experiencing issues with their BlackBerry service," the company said in a post to its Twitter account Friday morning.
Later the company tweeted that it was investigating the problem. A few hours thereafter RIM hit Twitter to note that the problem had been resolved.
"This outage could not happen at the worst quarter . . . when all devices are coming out and the Christmas season is approaching. They are close to their last chance, if they miss it, they will not recover," IDC analyst Francisco Jeronimo told the Chicago Tribune.
Customers affected by the outage were unable to send or receive emails for a few hours.
