Italy's Industrial Output Falls Less Than Expected In August

Italy's industrial production decreased at a slower rate than expected by economists in August, data released by statistical office Istat showed Wednesday.

Industrial production decreased a calendar-adjusted 5.2 percent year-on-year in August, sharply slower than the 9.7 percent fall economists had forecast.

Month-on-month, industrial production increased a seasonally adjusted 1.7 percent in August, while economists expected output to decline 0.5 percent.

In the January-August period, industrial production decreased 0.7 percent from the preceding period, and fell by 6.8 percent from a year earlier.
