Bridgepoint Education Inc. (BPI) declined 9 percent to $10.00 following the disclosure that the U.S. Justice Department is investigating the company's compensation of admissions personnel.
Microchip Technology Inc. (MCHP) fell 3 percent to $31.24. The company lowered its second quarter sales guidance citing macroeconomic and industry conditions. The company noted that overall global economic outlook continues to be poor and is adversely impacting its business as well as the rest of the semiconductor industry.
WD-40 Company (WDFC) fell 9 percent to $46.55. The company's fourth quarter profit declined 12 percent from the previous year and was below Wall Street view. Net sales for the quarter declined 6 percent and also missed the consensus estimate. The company also provided a weak guidance for fiscal year 2013.
Bankrate, Inc. (RATE) plunged 25 percent to $10.82. The company provided a weak third quarter forecast. The company said it has continued to make adjustments and have been even more aggressive about cutting back its insurance lead volume as it got more disposition data and feedback.
Trading halt:
Trading in shares of New Frontier Media, Inc. (NOOF) was halted. The company agreed to be acquired by LFP Broadcasting, LLC, an affiliate of L.F.P., Inc., the company founded and headed up by Larry Flynt.
