Canadian media and communications company Shaw Communications Inc. (SJR, SJR_B.TO) reported a rise in first-quarter net income attributable to equity shareholders to C$224 million, from C$192 million a year before. Net income amounted to C$235 million, higher than C$202 million in the prior-year quarter.
On a per share basis, three-month earnings improved to C$0.49, from C$0.43 in the comparable period in 2011.
Quarterly consolidated revenue was C$1.32 billion, up 3% from last year's C$1.28 billion.
Shaw Communications' Chief Executive stated, "The business performed well in the quarter building on the positive momentum from the second half of last year. We continue to leverage our portfolio of assets to deliver innovative new offerings and enhanced services, providing choice and value to our customers."
