Bulgaria's Current Account Shortfall Narrows In December

Bulgaria's current account deficit decreased from last year in December, data released by the Bulgarian National Bank showed Monday.

The current account deficit narrowed to EUR300.8 million in December from EUR343.7 million in the same month last year.

The goods trade account showed a shortfall of EUR329.2 million in December, up from EUR322.7 million recorded a year earlier. The services account, meanwhile, showed a surplus of EUR40.1 million, which was slightly lower than EUR43.2 million seen in December 2011.

The deficit in the income account widened to EUR254.6 million from EUR174 million a year earlier, while the surplus in the current transfers account advanced to EUR243 million from EUR109.8 million, data showed.
