Aqua America, Inc. (WTR) Monday reported a surge in profit for the fourth quarter, helped mainly by higher revenues.
Net income attributable to common shareholders jumped to $66.56 million or $0.47 per share from $34.01 million or $0.24 per share last year.
Income from continuing operations totaled $65.13 million or $0.46 per share, up from $31.51 million or $0.23 per share last year.
On average, nine analysts polled by Thomson Reuters expected the company to earn $0.28 per share for the quarter. Analysts' estimates typically exclude special items.
Income from discontinued operations decreased to $1.4 million or $0.01 per share from $2.50 million or $0.02 per share last year.
Revenues totaled $187.48 million, up from $166.79 million last year. Analysts expected revenues of $197.06 million.
