Facebook Inc.(FB) announced that it has named Mike Schroepfer as chief technology officer. In his role, Schroepfer is likely to assume a more prominent role within the company and as a spokesman for Facebook in Silicon Valley.
Schroepfer replaces Bret Taylor, who stepped down last June to found a start up and left the company following its initial public offering
Schroepfer, who joined Facebook in 2008,overseeing all of the company's engineering, infrastructure and mobile efforts. Previously, he served as vice president of engineering at Mozilla Corp., where he oversaw product development for the Firefox Internet browser. Schroepfer also served as CTO of Sun Microsystems' data center automation division.
"Mike Schroepfer's new designation as Facebook's CTO reflects the unique and important role he plays across the company," Facebook stated.
