Techne Corp. (TECH) said it has appointed Charles Kummeth as its chief executive and a director of the company, effective upon the commencement of his employment, which may be April 1, 2013. Gregory Melsen, who has served as the company's interim CEO since November 2012, would continue to serve as Vice President of Finance and Chief Financial Officer of the company.
Kummeth has served as President of Mass Spectrometry and Chromatography at Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc. from September 2011, and was President of the company's Laboratory Consumables unit from 2009 to September 2011. At Thermo Fisher Scientific, Kummeth headed a team of thousands of employees to over a billion dollars in annual sales. Prior to joining Thermo Fisher, he served in various roles at 3M Corp., most recently as the Vice President of the company's Medical Division from 2006 to 2008.
