Booker Group Q4 Sales Up

UK-based food wholesaler Booker Group Plc (BOK.L) on Thursday said its 12-week total sales, excluding Makro, rose by 2.3 percent, with 2.2 percent growth in like-for-like sales.

In its quarter four interim management statement, the group reported that its non-tobacco sales grew 4.3 percent, while tobacco sales fell by 0.8 percent. On a like-for-like basis, non-tobacco sales rose by 4.2 percent and tobacco sales fell by 0.9 percent.

For the 52-week period, total sales, excluding Makro, rose 3.5 percent to 4.0 billion pounds and total like-for-like sales were up 3.3 percent. Like-for-like non-tobacco sales rose 4.5 percent and like-for-like tobacco sales increased 1.3 percent during the year.

Sales to caterers rose by 6.2 percent and retailers by 2.0 percent. Customer numbers increased by 5 percent. Internet sales increased by 11 percent.

Charles Wilson, Booker Chief Executive, said: "....We are into the final stage of the Competition Commission's review of the Makro acquisition and we remain confident that a combination of Booker and Makro will improve choice, prices and service for caterers, retailers and small businesses in the UK."
