Mexican Inflation Rises To Five-Month High

Mexico's consumer price inflation increased to the highest level in five months in March, data released by statistical office INEGI showed Tuesday.

Inflation as per the consumer price index accelerated to 4.25 percent in March from 3.55 percent in February. Economists were looking for an inflation rate of 4.2 percent. The latest figure was the highest since October 2012, when consumer prices increased 4.6 percent.

Sequentially, consumer prices moved up 0.73 percent in March after rising 0.49 percent in the previous month. The index was forecast to rise 0.69 percent month-on-month.

Core inflation, adjusted for volatile items, came in at 3.02 percent in March. Compared to February, core consumer prices moved up 0.3 percent.

Separately, the agency said Mexico's producer price inflation slowed to 2.2 percent in March from 2.6 percent in February. On a monthly basis, the producer price index advanced at a slower pace of 0.24 percent than 0.38 percent in February.
