Romania's consumer prices increased at a slower rate than expected by economists in March, data released by the National Institute of Statistics showed Wednesday.
Inflation as per the consumer price index came in at 5.25 percent in March, lower than 5.5 percent economists had forecast.
Food prices rose 5.46 percent annually during the month, while costs of non-food products advanced 5.81 percent. Service costs were higher by 3.52 percent than those recorded a year earlier.
Sequentially, the consumer price index edged up 0.04 percent in March, while economists were looking for a 0.3 percent gain.
The harmonized index of consumer prices (HICP), measured under the EU methodology, on average increased 3.9 percent in the last 12 months compared to the same period a year earlier, data showed.
