Romania Current Account Turns To Surplus In February

Romania's current account turned to a surplus in the two months ended February, data released by the National Bank of Romania showed Monday.

The balance in the current account turned to a surplus of EUR327 million at the end of the two months ended February from a deficit of EUR657 million in the same period a year earlier.

Driving the improvement in the total balance, the shortfall in the goods trade account narrowed notably to EUR175 million from EUR640 million in 2012.

The services account showed a surplus of EUR152 million at the end of February, compared to a deficit of EUR116 million a year earlier.

The deficit in the income account decreased to EUR210 million from EUR274 million. The current transfers account showed a surplus of EUR560 million, notably higher than last year's EUR373 million surplus.
