BHP Billiton Ltd. (BHP, BHP.AX, BBL, BLT.L) reported that its March quarter iron ore production improved 6 percent to 40.21 million tonnes from the year ago quarter. On a sequential basis, iron ore production declined 5 percent.
Total petroleum products for the quarter were 55.42 million Barrel of Oil Equivalents or boe, down 2 percent from the same quarter last year. On a sequential basis, total petroleum production declined 7 percent.
Aluminium production for the quarter rose 10 percent, while nickel production gained 1 percent from the same period a year earlier. Copper production rose 9 percent from the year-ago quarter.
BHP Billiton also announced that iron ore production guidance of 183 million tonnes for the 2013 financial year remains unchanged, despite cyclone related downtime during the period. An annualised production rate approaching
200 million tonnes is anticipated for the June 2013 quarter.
