Astoria Financial Corp. (AF) Wednesday reported first-quarter net income of $13.85 million or $0.14 per share, compared to $9.97 million or $0.11 per share in the comparable quarter last year.
On average, 13 analysts polled by Thomson Reuters expected earnings of $0.13 per share for the quarter. Analysts' estimates typically exclude special items.
Net interest income for the quarter totaled $84.0 million, down from $88.2 million last year, while total non-interest income for the quarter declined to $18.3 million from $19.6 million in the prior year.
During the quarter, a $9.1 million provision for loan losses was recorded, compared with $10.0 million a year earlier.
Astoria said its Board has declared a quarterly cash dividend of $0.04 per common share, payable on June 1, 2013 to shareholders of record as of May 15, 2013.
