Taiwan Mar. Unemployment Rate Rises Marginally

Unemployment rate in Taiwan increased for the first time in six months in March, data from the Directorate-General of Budget, Accounting and Statistics showed Monday.

The seasonally adjusted jobless rate rose to 4.18 percent in March from 4.16 percent in February. The outcome matched expectations. This was first increase in the rate since September last year.

On an unadjusted basis, the unemployment rate was 4.17 percent, down from 4.24 percent in February.

The number of unemployed persons in March was 475,000, down 1.75 percent from previous month on an unadjusted basis. This, however, increased 0.93 percent year-on-year.

Total employment increased 0.06 percent month-on-month to 10.9 million in March. Employment increased 1.07 percent when compared to the same month of the previous year.
