Google has some good news for the environment. Its local energy provider Duke Energy has pledged to develop a new program for large companies like Google who want to buy renewable power for their operations and that the move will decide Google's expansion of their Lenoir, N.C. Data center. Google's blog said that Duke will file the plan with their state commission within 90 days.
Recently, Google had also filed a white paper on renewable power option for companies that request it, as firms presently don't offer such utilities. Google's approach for the choice of energy also poses challenges like working out the mechanics of the service and legal hurdles along with the search for cost-effective renewable projects.
The firm's blog also boasted that Google has committed over $1 billion so far, to renewable energy project investments, signed agreements to procure wind power near their data centers, and installed solar panels at their headquarters.
Google said by tapping utilities' strength in power generation, companies can buy renewable energy on a larger scale, which will provide a new way to increase the use of renewable energy nationwide.
