Iconic brands iPhone and Volkswagen, Friday, announced that they have gotten together to conceive the new iBeetle, a Beetle car with an iPhone interface via a specially designed app and a docking station. This is the first Volkswagen car to have iPhone as an integrated component and the first in the world to have a genuine integrative interface with Apple. It is set for launch in early 2014.
The new Beetle has a docking station at the center of the dashboard, where all one has to do is snap on the iPhone and use it to navigate, make hands-free calls, listen to music and essentially perform all functions of the phone. The interface can be acquired either as an app or as a standard feature of the new iBeetle Coupe and iBeetle Convertible.
The Beetle app comes with various options like Spotify, "Expert" which acts as a G-meter to the car, and message reader. The driver can also send map motif of the current location through Postcard, send pictures to social networks via Photo on activation, and compare driving times, distances, and fuel economy values for different routes with "Trainer".
In addition, iBeetle is packed with the usual components along with 18-inch disc alloy wheels, black door sill plates with the iBeetle signatue, and chrome badges. Complementing the iPhone's color scheme, the car will also be available in shades of black and white, featuring a customized shift lever grip and leather sport seats.
