Northeast Utilities Q1 Profit Rises - Quick Facts

Northeast Utilities (NU) Wednesday said its profit for the first quarter increased, helped mainly by higher revenues.

Net earnings for the quarter rose to $228.1 million or $0.72 per share from $99.3 million or $0.56 per share in the comparable quarter last year.

On average, 12 analysts polled by Thomson Reuters expected the company to earn $0.65 per share for the quarter. Analysts' estimates typically exclude special items.

Meanwhile, operating revenues totaled $2.00 billion, up from $1.10 billion a year ago, while five analysts expected revenues of $1.87 billion.
