Breast Implants Could Be Dangerous For Breast Cancer Survivors

Breast implants may be harmful to women who have previously survived breast cancer, says a new study from researchers in Canada. For the study, a researcher from the Quebec University Hospital reviewed data from 12 separate studies conducted since 1993.

They found that 26 percent of women with breast cancer were diagnosed in later stages of cancer than women without. They also found that women with implants had a 38 percent increased chance of death from breast cancer.

The risk was especially increased for women who already survived breast cancer, as their associated risks are much higher than those who have never suffered cancer.

Researchers of the study say: "The accumulating evidence suggests that women with cosmetic breast implants who develop breast cancer have an increased risk of being diagnosed as having non-localised breast tumours [tumours that have spread and are therefore more dangerous] more frequently than do women with breast cancer who do not have implants."
