Budget airline easyJet Plc (EZJ.L, ESYJY.PK) on Tuesday reported growth in April traffic, while monthly load factor dropped year-over-year.
Passengers for the month, representing the number of earned seats flown, climbed 2.5% to 5.25 million from 5.13 million in the comparable period last year. However, load factor in April slid 2.6 percentage points to 86.7 percent from 89.3 percent a year ago.
Underlying load factors in April were broadly flat year-on-year after adjusting for the timing of Easter and the impact of French air traffic control strikes in April 2012, according to the company.
Since easyJet is a no-refund airline, earned seats for the company included seats that are flown whether or not the passenger turned up. Once a flight has departed, a no-show customer is generally not entitled to change flights or seek a refund. Earned seats also included seats provided for promotional purposes as well as seats given to staff for business travel.
