Freddie Mac (FMCC.OB) reported that its first-quarter net loss attributable to common stockholders widened to $2.390 billion from $1.227 billion in the same quarter last year. On a per share basis, net loss was $0.74, compared to a loss of $0.38 in the year ago quarter.
However, net income for the quarter surged to $4.581 billion from $577 million in the prior year quarter.
Net interest income for the quarter declined to $4.265 billion from $4.500 billion in the year ago quarter. Non-interest income was $402 million, compared to non-interest loss of $1.516 billion in the prior year quarter.
