Permanent staff appointments in the U.K. improved for the seventh month in a row in April, with the rate of growth accelerating since March, the Report on Jobs published by the Recruitment and Employment Confederation and KPMG showed Thursday.
But temp billings declined for the first time in nine months in April. Further, the report showed that permanent staff vacancy growth inched up since March, while temp vacancies increased at the weakest pace in nine months.
Permanent staff availability was broadly unchanged in April. On the other hand, temp availability increased but at a slower pace. Pay growth for both permanent and temporary staff eased in April.
"Recruiters are reporting a renewed sense of purpose from their clients, with employers making hiring decisions more quickly than before," said REC chief executive Kevin Green.
"All the feedback from recruiters is that employers intend to continue to increase their use of flexible staffing in the months ahead," Green added.
