Hungary's trade with the rest of the world resulted in a higher-than-expected surplus in March, preliminary figures released by the Hungarian Central Statistical Office showed Friday.
The trade surplus amounted to EUR 753.4 million in March, above expectations for a surplus of EUR 550 million. This was also higher than EUR 778.6 million surplus recorded in the same period last year.
Exports declined 2.8 percent from a year earlier to EUR 6.9 billion in March. Imports fell 5.6 percent annually to EUR 6.1 billion.
In the first three months of the year, the trade surplus was 1.71 billion. The value of exports totaled EUR 19.9 billion, while that of imports was EUR 18.2 billion.
