National Thermal Power Corporation Ltd., or NTPC, reported a surge in its stand-alone net profit for the fourth-quarter, on one-time gain. The company recommended a final dividend for the fiscal year, which included a special dividend.
Stand-alone Results
The New Delhi-based company posted a fourth-quarter stand-alone net profit of Rs.4,381.61 crore or Rs.5.31 per share, surged by 69 percent, compared with Rs.2,593.94 crore or Rs.3.15 per share in the year-ago quarter.
Results for the quarter included a one-time gain of Rs.1,684.11 crore, under exceptional items, related to interest received from Delhi Electricity Supply Undertaking on settlement of dues.
Net income from operations rose by one percent to Rs.16,461.84 crore from the Rs.16,263.56 crore in the corresponding quarter last year, while other operating income stood at Rs.887.25 crore, compared with Rs.97.95 crore in the fourth-quarter of last year.
Other income during the quarter amounted to Rs.884.10 crore, compared with Rs.681.20 crore in Q4FY12.
Income for the quarter from 'Generation' segment grew by 17 percent to Rs.19,135.28 crore from the Rs.16,395.78 crore in the corresponding quarter last year, while that of 'Others' amounted to Rs.40.41 crore, compared with Rs.32.08 crore in the year-ago quarter.
For the fiscal year, NTPC's stand-alone net profit was Rs.12,619.39 crore, higher by 37 percent than last year's Rs.9,223.73 crore. Total net income from operations, including other operating income, increased by six percent to Rs.65,673.93 crore from the Rs.62,052.23 crore last year.
Other income during the year totaled Rs.3,101.58 crore, compared with Rs.2,789.65 crore in Q4FY12.
Consolidated Results
The company posted fiscal year consolidated net profit, after share of associates and minority interest, of Rs.12,590.78 crore, compared with Rs.9,812.79 crore in 2012, reflecting a 28 percent growth.
Total net income from operations, including other operating income, totaled Rs.69,376.82 crore, up by five percent from the Rs.65,893.25 crore a year-ago,while other income was Rs.3,163.97 crore, compared with Rs.2,949.23 crore in Q4FY12.
The company's Board recommended a final dividend of 20 percent or Rs.2.00 per equity share of Rs.10 each (including a special dividend of Re.1.25) for the fiscal year 2013.
At the BSE, NTPC shares are currently trading at Rs.157.55, up 0.70 percent from the previous close.
