Italy's industrial production decreased further in March, and at a notably faster rate than expected by economists, latest data showed Friday.
Industrial production, on an unadjusted basis, fell 9.5 percent annually in March, statistical office Istat said. The rate of contraction far exceeded 3.8 percent forecast by economists.
On working-day adjusted basis, industrial production contracted 5.2 percent in March from a year earlier.
Month-on-month, industrial output decreased a seasonally adjusted 0.8 percent in March, while expectations were for a more modest decline of 0.3 percent.
In the January-March period, the seasonally adjusted industrial production edged down 0.4 percent from the preceding three-month period. Year-on-year, unadjusted production fell by 6.1 percent during the quarter.
