Slovenia's industrial production decreased from last year in March, initial estimates released by the Statistical Office of the Republic of Slovenia showed Friday.
Industrial production dropped 3.3 percent year-on-year in March. Driving the contraction, manufacturing production, which constitutes majority of the overall output, fell 5.8 percent from a year earlier.
Meanwhile, output in the mining and quarrying industry advanced 24.4 percent from March 2012. Production and supply of electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning were higher by 12.2 percent than a year earlier.
Month-on-month, industrial output declined 2.9 percent in March. During the quarter ended March, output edged down 0.8 percent from the same period of 2012.
At the same time, turnover in the Slovenian industrial sector fell 5.5 percent in March compared to the same month of last year. Sequentially, sales decreased by 1.7 percent.
Separately, the agency said Slovenia's merchandise exports decreased 2.3 percent year-on-year to EUR 1.88 billion in March. The value of imports fell 8.3 percent annually to EUR 1.87 billion. The net trade resulted in a deficit of EUR 10.53 million.
