Semafo Inc. (SMF.TO) reported a first-quarter loss attributable to equity sharholders of US$7.29 million or US$0.03 per share, compared to earnings of US$28.10 million or US$0.10 per share in the same quarter last year.
The latest quarter results were affected mainly by an impairement charge of $35 million, which was absent in the year-ago period.
On an adjusted basis, the company posted a profit of $19.6 million, down from $28.1 million a year ago. Also, adjusted basic per share profit for the latest quarter totaled $0.07 per share, compared to $0.10 per share in the year-ago quarter.
Meanwhile, revenues from gold sales for the latest quarter rose 6 percent to US$106.05 million from US$100.40 million in the prior year quarter.
The company said its Board has declared a dividend of C$0.02 per share payable on July 15, 2013 to shareholders of record on June 30, 2013.
