Whole Foods has reportedly issued a recall on both chicken and vegan salads after some were mistakenly marked with the wrong labels.
According to a report from the Los Angeles Times, the salads were sold between Tuesday and Wednesday of last week in about 15 stores throughout the northeastern United States before the recall.
The mix-up was a cause for concern not only for those choosing vegan diets, but also because both contained potentially life-threatening allergens. The vegan salad product includes a soy meat replacement listed as "chick'n" and the natural chicken salad contains egg. Both soy and eggs can be life threatening allergens, according to the FDA.
The FDA has posted an advisory about the recall on the web calling the products "bulk curried salad -- chicken and vegan." The salads were sold in locations throughout Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Jersey and New York and photos of the salads in question have appeared in New York City's Gothamist blog.
