Hungary's consumer price inflation eased for a seventh consecutive month in April, data from the Hungarian Central Statistical Office revealed Tuesday.
The rate of inflation eased to 1.7 percent in April from 2.2 percent in March. The figure matched economists' forecast. Inflation has been easing steadily since October last year.
Food inflation remained steady at 3.4 percent. Prices of alcoholic beverages and tobacco climbed 10.8 percent, albeit at a slower pace than in the previous month.
Clothing and footwear prices went up by 0.4 percent from a year earlier. At the same time, there was an 8.4 percent slump in utility costs.
Month-on-month, the consumer price index rose 0.3 percent, at the same pace as in the previous month. This was also in line with expectations.
The core inflation measure increased 3.2 percent year-on-year in April and was up 0.2 percent on a monthly basis. The harmonized index of consumer prices increased 1.8 percent from a year earlier in April and rose 0.3 percent month-on-month.
