Albanian Defense Minister Arben Imami is scheduled to visit the headquarters of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) in Brussels on Wednesday.
Imami will talk with NATO Secretary-General Anders Fogh Rasmussen on a range of issues, and address the Euro-Atlantic Partnership Council, according to a NATO press release.
Albania's relationship with NATO began in 1992, when it joined the North Atlantic Cooperation Council. Later, the eastern European country entered NATO's Partnership for Peace in 1994, thereby beginning the process of its accession into the alliance.
Five years later, Albania received a Membership Action Plan (MAP), followed by an invitation to join the Western military alliance at the 2008 Bucharest Summit. It subsequently became a full NATO member on April 1, 2009.
