Housing costs and energy prices were higher by 1.1 percent than in April 201. Meanwhile, there was a 2.2 percent decrease in transportation expenses during the month.

Month-on-month, consumer prices moved up 0.4 percent in April. Economists had forecast the index to record a 0.3 percent monthly growth.

During the four months ended April, the consumer price index grew 1.2 percent from the corresponding period a year earlier, data showed.
