Auto insurance group Progressive Corp. (PGR) reported that its net income for the month of April jumped to $139.5 million from last year's $61.2 million in the same month last year. Net income per share for the month also increased to $0.23 from $0.10 in last year.
Net premiums written for the month grew 7% to $1.782 billion from last year's $1.672 billion. Net premiums earned also rose about 7% to $1.64 billion from $1.528 billion in the year ago month.
