Power Corp. of Canada (POW.TO) Wednesday reported first-quarter profit of $225 million or $0.49 per share, down from $260 million or $0.57 per share in the same period last year.
Operating earnings improved to $247 million or $0.54 per share from $205 million or $0.45 per share last year.
On average, six analysts polled by Thomson Reuters expected the company to earn $0.51 per share for the quarter. Analysts' estimates typically exclude special items.
