Two soldiers of the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) and four ISAF contracted civilians were killed in a suicide car bomb attack in Afghanistan capital Kabul on Thursday.
A terrorist blew up his explosives-laden vehicle next to a convoy of foreign cars in Kabul's eastern industrial district of Karta-e Naw in the morning. An ISAF press release confirmed the incident, but did not reveal the identity of the dead soldiers.
Media reports citing local residents said a Toyota Corolla car exploded near a convoy of two foreign military vehicles at about 08:00 a.m. local time. The explosion also caused extensive damage to nearby buildings.
There were unconfirmed reports that two children were also killed and 30 people wounded in the attack.
With the latest deaths, the number of foreign soldiers killed in Afghanistan this year has risen to 65, and makes May the bloodiest month for ISAF in 2013.
Currently, the ISAF is making serious efforts to ensure that the Afghan security forces are capable of handling the country's security ahead of the planned withdrawal of all coalition troops from the country by end of 2014. However, there are wide concerns about the ability of Afghan forces to counter Taliban insurgency without the same level of foreign military assistance.
