Bay Street stocks were little changed at open Thursday amid selling in metal stocks, with the S&P/TSX Composite Index edging up 12.87 points or 0.10 percent to 12,486.52.
The Global Gold Index was down about 3 percent, with Detour Gold (DGC.TO) losing over 6 percent and Allied Nevada Gold (ANV.TO shedding over 4 percent. Royal Gold (RGL.TO), Yamana Gold (YRI.TO), Goldcorp. (G.TO) and Agnico-Eagle Mines (AEM.TO) were down around 3 percent each.
In the base-metals space, Teck Resources (TCK_B.TO) and First Quantum Minerals (FM.TO) were down around 1 percent each.
In the oil patch, Bonterra Energy (BNE.TO) and Baytex Energy Corp. (BTE.TO) were up nearly 1 percent each.
Energy infrastructure company TransCanada Corp. (TRP.TO) eased 0.50 percent after it said it would divest certain assets for about $1.05 billion.
Power Corp. of Canada (POW.TO) edged up 0.30 percent even after reporting lower first-quarter profit of $225 million or $0.49 per share
Asset management company Dundee Corp. (DC_A.TO) shed 0.50 percent after slipping into the red in first-quarter.
Aviation-training and simulation products provider CAE Inc. (CAE.TO) gained over 1 percent after reporting lower fourth-quarter net income.
