Energy Stocks Lift TSX Up At Open Friday

Toronto stocks were up at open Friday amid buying in energy and base-metals stocks, with the S&P/TSX Composite Index adding 53.38 points or 0.43 percent to 12,560.98.

The Diversified Materials Index added nearly 1 percent, with Teck Resources (TCK_B.TO) gaining about 2 percent and First Quantum Minerals (FM.TO) adding 0.50 percent.

In the oil patch, Suncor Energy (SU.TO), Baytex Energy Corp. (BTE.TO) and Vermilion Energy (VET.TO) were up around 2 percent each.

Consumer goods dealer Legumex Walker Inc. (LWP.TO) jumped over 15 percent.

Meanwhile, gold stocks were moving lower amid a fall in bullion prices. Detour Gold (DGC.TO) shed close to 45. Agnico-Eagle Mines (AEM.TO) and , Goldcorp. (G.TO) lost around 2 percent each.

In the financial space, TD bank (TD.TO) and Scotiabank (BNS.TO) slipped around 0.50 percent each.
