Two terrorist attacks apparently targeting Sunni Muslims in towns near Iraqi capital Baghdad on Friday killed at least 47 people and wounded dozens of others, reports said.
The first attack in Baquba, north of Baghdad, was the worst, where at least 40 people were killed in two explosions outside a Sunni mosque.
The death toll was high because the bombings were carried out after Friday prayers. A second bomb was detonated remotely as people gathered at the site of the the first bombing.
Later in the day, a suicide bomber targeted a funeral procession in Madain, south of Baghdad, killing seven people. They were mourning the death of a local mayor.
The incident comes a day after eight people were killed in a suicide bomb attack on a Shiite mosque in Iraq's northern city of Kirkuk.
There has been a notable increase in violent attacks since the U.S. combat forces left Iraq in late 2011, mostly sectarian in nature.
