Google's wearable computer, the Google Glass is fast heading towards pertinence in this age dominated by social networking. At its annual developers conference in San Francisco, the technology giant unveiled a host of new applications including Facebook, Twitter and CNN for its futuristic gadget. As the company is "collectively figuring out what the best experience is with Glass", these big names entering the fray, sure hints at industry endorsement for the nascent product.
According to Google heads, users can upload photos from the Google Glass directly to their Facebook timeline. Should they opt to add a description for the photo they can just "speak" it and the Glass would do the rest. Twitter addicts too have reasons to cheer as "In addition to sharing photos, you can also keep up with the people you follow on Twitter through notifications". As always they can re-tweet or reply to these tweets.
CNN has also made news by tailoring an application for the gadget that lets wearers receive news alerts while fashion magazine Elle rolled out one that gives people access to features and images from certain sections of its magazine. Applications from The New York Times and Path were some of the first to be announced for the Glass.
After a much-hyped lack of presence during the just over three-hour keynote address on Wednesday, Google Glass took center stage again the next day. The futuristic-looking device was said to be omni-present at the conference with many of the staffers and attendees fashionably sporting it. The product has till now been sold only to a limited number of developers and it still remains unclear as to when it will make its highly anticipated debut among consumers. However, amidst steadily growing privacy concerns the gadget has yet a "long way to go" in silencing the skeptics.
