Unemployment rate in Hong Kong remained at 3.5 percent in February-April, unchanged from the January-March period, the latest figures from the Census and Statistics Department showed Monday.
The number of unemployed persons increased to 133,500 in February-April from 132,500 in January - March. Total employment was 3.718 million during the period, down by around 1,900 from January-March.
Commenting on the data, Secretary for Labor and Welfare Matthew Cheung Kin-chung said with a new batch of fresh graduates entering the labor market, coupled with a cautious hiring sentiment, unemployment rate is expected to be under some pressure in the coming months.
Still, the government expects the resilient of domestic demand to provide some relief to the overall employment situation, the official said.
