Italy's current account balance showed a surplus of EUR 1.9 billion in March compared to a deficit of EUR 1.56 billion logged during the same period of last year, the Bank of Italy reported Monday.
The surplus in goods account almost doubled to EUR 4.66 billion from EUR 2.4 billion last year. At the same time, the deficit in services narrowed to EUR 429 million from EUR 836 million in the prior year.
Similarly, the shortfall in current transfers fell to EUR 1.8 billion from EUR 2.7 billion. Meanwhile, the income account showed a negative balance of EUR 512 million, larger than a EUR 437 million shortfall seen last year.
The capital account deficit increased sharply to EUR 212 million from EUR 40 million in the prior year.
