The Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence has filed a lawsuit against the town of Nelson, Georgia, which back in April, approved a law requiring all households to be armed with at least one gun.
CNN reports that the five-member town council in Nelson unanimously in its approval of the law, and says that those households that don't have both a gun and ammunition could be fined up to $1,000.
The lawsuit says that the law violates both the First Amendment and Second amendments, saying that requiring a person to purchase a firearm that the don't want to own violates their "freedom to act of not to act". The suit says that the law also violates the 14th amendment.
The law exempts residents who are mentally disabled residents as well as those who are convicted felons. The town has a population of 1,300 people.
