Suicide Bomber Kills Afghan Provincial Chief, 13 Others

At least 14 people, including a key anti-Taliban figure in northern Afghanistan's Baghlan province, were killed in a suicide bomb-attack on Monday.

Haji Rasool Khan Mohseni, head of the provincial council, was entering the council's headquarters in Baghlan's capital Pul-e Khomri for a meeting with elders, when the attack took place.

Reports quoting police said a suicide bomber, disguised as military officer, detonated a suicide vest as Mohseni was walking along with his bodyguards and a group of elders. casualties include bodyguards and the elders.

Commonly known as Rasul Khan, he was widely regarded as the most powerful man in the relatively peaceful Baghlan province since the days he commanded a revolt against the Taliban regime.

Nobody has claimed responsibility for the attack, but Mohseni had reportedly received several death threats over his powerful campaign to eliminate Taliban militants.
