Unemployment rate in Sweden increased in April from a year earlier, the latest figures from Statistics Sweden showed Tuesday.
The unemployment rate was 8.7 percent in April, which was 0.7 percentage point higher than in April last year.
The number of unemployed persons increased by 44,000 from last year to reach 445,000 in April 2013. According to seasonally adjusted data, there were 428 000 unemployed persons in the country during the month, corresponding to a jobless rate of 8.4 percent.
In April, the number of employed persons was 4.6 million and the employment rate was 65 percent.
The statistical office also reported that on average, the number of hours worked during the month amounted to 150.9 million per week. Compared to April 2012, this marked a "statistically significant" increase of 2.4 million hours or 1.6 percent.
