No charges will be pressed on a Northwest D.C. man who saved the life of a young boy by shooting three pit bulls.
The incident happened in January, when Benjamin Srigley saw three pit bulls attacking an 11-year-old boy. Jayeon Simon was riding his dirt bike he had just gotten as a Christmas gift when he was attacked and suffered multiple injuries.
Srigley grabbed his handgun and began shooting at the dogs killing one; an A.D.C police officer killed the other two, the Washington Post reports.
Officials say Srigley legally bought the handgun and two other firearms in Virginia, but did not register them in the District.
A deputy attorney in charge of the public safety division said, "The extraordinary circumstances of his role in saving the boy from the dogs' attack also justified an extraordinary disposition," the Post reports.
Srigley will not face firearm charges as long as he doesn't break the law for two months. He has agreed to pay a $1,000 fine and abide by the gun laws.
The charge of owning an unregistered firearm could result in at least one year behind bars.
