Sergio Garcia has apologized publicly after making seemingly racist comment directed at Tiger Woods. The pair have been feuding since the Players Championship at Sawgrass earlier this month and Garcia's comment came during an interview at the European Tour's gala players' awards, according to The Guardian.
Golf Channel's Steve Sands was on hand at the event and asked Garcia about the spat in an interview. When asked if Garcia would have Woods over for dinner the Spaniard responded: "We will have him round every night, we will serve fried chicken."
He has since retracted the comment, saying:
"I apologise for any offence that may have been caused by my comment on stage during The European Tour Players' Awards dinner. I answered a question that was clearly made towards me as a joke with a silly remark, but in no way was the comment meant in a racist manner," he explained in an official statement.
